UAE Ministry of Health & Prevention hosts training program for the resuscitation of newly born babies

First ever offering of the European Newborn Life Support program in the Middle East, Asia & Africa region

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention, represented by the Training and Development Centre in Sharjah, recently organized the Newborn Life Support (NLS) program in collaboration with the European Resuscitation Council (ERC). NLS program will provide clear practical instruction in the resuscitation of babies at birth. It is designed for healthcare professionals regardless of their disciplines or status, who may be called upon to resuscitate a newborn baby. The first-of-its-kind seminar in the Middle East, Asia and Africa region was conducted to improve the capabilities of the healthcare staff at the Ministry-run facilities and be at par with the latest international best practices.

 

A group of international trainers from the Netherlands, Britain, Ireland, Egypt, and Sudan provided training for the program which was held from October 9 to 14, 2016. The course was attended by more than 100 healthcare professionals, including pediatricians, neonatologists, emergency doctors, anesthesiologists, nurses and technicians who work in the obstetrics department and deal with child birth.

 

H.E. Awad Al Ketbi, Assistant Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention’s Support Services Sector, emphasized that the objective of organizing such programs is to raise the standard of healthcare services in the UAE. He said that such unique and internationally recognized health training programs help in improving the quality of services provided to patients and at the same time upgrade hospital infrastructure to be eligible for international accreditation from organizations such as Joint Commission International (JCI).

 

Saqr Ghanim Al Hemeiri, Director of the Training and Development Center, pointed out that the training program on the resuscitation of newborn babies is aimed at achieving the objectives of the Center to expand its range of training programs and to bring it at par with international standards. He said that in addition to the NLS program, the Center is conducting a Training of Trainers program on simulation-based training, to build a cadre of in the ministry who are able to continue training on these sophisticated programs, and to maintain the sustainability of the training and knowledge transfer.
